Wednesday December 7th - Baby, It's Nasty Outside

Route #12: The Nasty

This week we culminate our 12 run series with our signature run – Route #12: The Nasty! 6 miles of the worst best hills in East Nashville. You get our famous bumper sticker when you complete the run! If you need a little shorter run, you can run ‘Nasty Lite’ – a 3.7 mile run – but, there’s no sticker reward. We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm (and 6am). Meet at 5:30pm and join the Lasty Nasties if you are a run/walker and want to get a head start. We have 12 different routes that we cycle through on Wednesdays, which means that we run each one 4 times per year. (We fill in the gaps with some random runs.) So it works out that we get to experience each route in each season (more or less). So this is the 'winter' Nasty - it will be chilly and dark - so be sure to wear something that creates or reflects light! Then throw on a hoodie and come down to 3 Crow Bar to celebrate completing the run with all your peeps!

Christmas Party - Next Week

Don’t forget, our annual Christmas Party is NEXT Wednesday night Dec 14th immediately after the run. Bring $10 and your East Nasty cheer! Because of that, there is no Pint Night this week, but Nashville Running Company will be donating this month’s keg to the party next week. Thanks, NRC! Also, we will have some remaining East Nasty shirts and gear available for purchase at the party.

Thanks, Smith & Lentz!

Big thanks to Smith & Lentz Brewing for hosting the Bluegrass Christmas Tree Lighting event last night. We had a great turnout and raised a couple hundred bucks for the club!

2017 Half and Full Marathon Training

Look for details and sign up info tomorrow! Training starts Saturday morning January 7th in Shelby Park…

Wednesday Nov 30th - Holiday Spirits

Route #11

This week we get back on track with Route #11 – The Church Run. East Nashville is one of the oldest communities in Nashville. Many buildings date back to the late 1800’s early 1900’s, and some of the most beautiful architecture is highlighted in the churches. This route is a figure 8 loop that will feature many of these old churches - we will pass about 13 churches in all. We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm (and 6am). Meet at 5:45pm and join the Lasty Nasties if you are a run/walker. Be sure to wear something that creates or reflects light. Since this route is a figure 8, its a great week to invite new runners and beginners - because you can easily stop after just 2 miles of the first loop of the figure 8.

Next week is our signature route, #12 The Nasty, and the last chance in 2016 to earn your official East Nasty sticker!

Beers, Bluegrass, and Christmas Tree Lights

Monday night Dec 5th at 7pm, Smith & Lentz Brewing is hosting a Bluegrass Christmas Tree Lighting event at their taproom at 903 Main St - and its fundraiser for East Nasty! Join us to light up the Christmas tree in the taproom and bring your dancing shoes as 'Hops to Mouth', hailing from the hills of South Inglewood, will perform a blend of traditional bluegrass and original material with a dash of humor. The band features former ENOW Donica Elliott on banjo! $1 of each pint you buy that night will be donated to East Nasty! Shotgun Willie's BBQ will also be there slinging brisket and sausage and sides.

Cup Washing Volunteers Needed

We need a few more volunteers for the rest of this year. Will you help out? East Nasty relies entirely on volunteers. One of our simplest, but most important needs each week is washing the water cups. Here’s how it works: 1) Take the cups home after the run on Wednesday. 2) Wash them. 3) Bring them back the next week. Easy stuff. Please sign up here.

Volunteer to help wash the cups!

Christmas Party

Don't forget, our annual Christmas Party is Wednesday night Dec 14th immediately after the run. Bring $10 and your East Nasty cheer! Instead of having a monthly Pint Night on Dec 7th, Nashville Running Company will be donating this month's keg to the party on the 14th. Thanks, NRC!

PR Bandits Saturday Morning Run – Shelby Greenway

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! Anyone that wants to get in a run tomorrow morning, let's plan to meet at the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center at 7:30am and do the Greenway. Due to the holiday weekend, this run will be most likely unsupported by hydration, so having water fountains on both ends of the Greenway does make it nice.

Let's plan to get 8 miles in doing the lollipop loop in the park and people that want extra can either circle back or add on around the lake or even head to the stadium.

RSVP here and join the PR Bandits Facebook Group for more info, get run invites, and to link up with other runners. Saturday runs will be held at various favorite running routes across Nashville.

Wednesday Nov 23rd – Gobble Gobble

en_mapbanner_route_07

Pre-Thanksgiving Run

Yes! We do meet for a run the day before Thanksgiving.  (In fact, we have not missed a Wednesday run since June 2008.)  We usually have a smaller crowd on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so we get to run something a little different. We'll be doing Route #7 Little Hollywood - but we will be running it in reverse direction! So plan on joining us at 6am or 6pm at the corner of 11th and Holly in East Nashville.

Thanksgiving Morning Runs

Many of you will be running The Boulevard Bolt on Thursday morning, but if you would rather burn off some pre-turkey calories here on the East Side, you have a couple of options.

The Riverside Screw is a free group run in East Nashville on Thanksgiving morning. Parking is available in Shelby Park under the railroad bridge near the entrance of Shelby Bottoms Greenway. Meet at 7:50 AM. We will walk to Riverside using the new Shelby Bottoms trailhead. The run starts at 8 AM. We will run along Riverside to McGavock Pike and back. This is an out-and-back fun run, so feel free to turn around whenever you want. This will be hilly. If you don't like hills, this is not the run for you. This is NOT a closed course. Obey all traffic signs. Runner assumes all liability. There may be fabulous prizes...

Go East Go Eat is a 5 mile run (or the ever popular shorter Pumpkin Pie 3.14 option - get it?) at 6:20am at the Shelby Bottom Nature Center followed by breakfast at Eastwood Christian Church at 8am. All are welcome to the run and breakfast. Please let them know if you are coming so they can be sure to have enough food.

Christmas Party

Our Annual Christmas party is set for Wednesday December 14th. We'll have our normal run, then immediately afterward everyone is invited to join us at Phil & Gretchen Zimmerman's house just down the street from our meeting spot for some food and drinks. This is also a time where we get a list of our "members". East Nasty is under the umbrella of the Road Runners Club of America, and there are costs associated with that along with our operations. So, if you consider yourself a part of East Nasty, we ask each of you to bring $10 to help us offset these costs. This allows us to keep doing all the things we do - such as offer free half and full marathon training, a free couch to 5k program, our big Post-Marathon Party, insurance for the club, uniforms for the Stratford High Cross Country Team, etc. We'll also have some East Nasty gear for sale if you are looking for Christmas gifts!

Destination Race 2017

By popular demand we will once again be heading down for the Chattanooga Marathon and Half Marathon for our spring destination race the weekend of March 3-5th, 2017. Sign up for the race and join us for a fun weekend in Chatty! They are having an incredible 25% Off Sale this weekend Black Friday thru Cyber Monday - so REGISTER this weekend for the lowest possible price!

PR Bandits Saturday Morning Run – Percy Warner to Radnor Lake

Enjoy a fun run along Tyne Blvd and into Radnor Lake. Turning at the welcome center (where they have bathrooms!) will get you about 10 miles, but you can go further and enjoying the path along the lake.

Remeber, you can park at the golf course club house, just go left at the enterance to Cheekwood.

Wednesday Nov 16th – Gonna rock down to...

East Nasty Route #10

Route #10

This week we revisit one of our newer routes Route #10 – The Electric Slide. or Boogaloo. Or something like that. We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm (and 6am). Be sure to wear something that creates or reflects light. This route is awesome (with one of the greatest hills in East Nashville) but you need to be extra cautious at one particular intersection. Right before the three mile mark, you turn left onto 14th from Sevier. Before you turn left onto 14th from Sevier, you need to STOP, look for traffic, then cross the street and run on the sidewalk on the right side of 14th. Be very careful crossing 14th! For those of you who know the area, make sure you alert those around you.

2017 Half Marathon Training

We are looking for just a few more volunteer pace leaders for our 2017 edition of our Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon training beginning in January. Specifically, we need pace leaders for finish times of 2:15 and 2:30. Pace leaders train a group to run a specific goal pace for the half marathon, and will finish the training by leading them through the race. Leading a training group is a great way to give back, a lot of fun – and a commitment. As a thank you, we will reimburse you for your race entry fee. Interested? Email our Half Marathon Training Coordinator David Harris at David@eastnastyforlife.com for more specifics.

Training will start on Saturday January 7th. We will have more info about participating in Half and Full training programs in the coming weeks!

PR Bandits Saturday Morning Run – Germantown to the River

East Nasty is partnering with the ‘PR Bandits’ who are hosting supported long runs on Saturday mornings. Starting at Bicentennial Mall on 7th Ave North (about a block down from Jefferson St.) at 8am, this run makes its way around the new ball park, up through Germantown, across MetroCenter, and then on the greenway directly into downtown. We finish the run with a few well deserved hills for an 8 mile route but there are a few shortcut/longer options if your heart so desires.

Hydration will be located at the start and finish, as well as the enterance onto the greenway, appoximalty 4 miles into the run.

PR Bandits Saturday Morning Run – Downtown Tour

East Nasty is partnering with the ‘PR Bandits’ who are hosting supported long runs on Saturday mornings. This Saturday we will be supplying Nuun thanks to Nashville Running Company! Good luck to everyone running Indy this weekend!!! Be "Monumental"!

Let's run Nashville! This route will not take away from enjoying the views and the hills that Nashville offers. We will meet in Lot R of Nissan Stadium at the base of the pedestrian bridge. (With Nashville being the "It City" these days, who knows what we may find when we get there. If we have to go to plan B, we will meet at East Park Recreation Center.)

8.8 Mile Loop - http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/1111844022

Wednesday Nov 2nd - Rick is now Roy, but the beer is still cold.

Run #8 Rick's Market 2.0

Route #8

This week it's back towards Shelby for Route #8 – Rick's Market. We meet at the corner of 11th & Holly at 6pm (and 6am). Be sure to wear something that creates or reflects light. So much has changed in East Nashville in recent years and this route is no exception. Rick's is actually home to Roy Meats Service now. So, you can pick up your favorite cut of meat along with the "coldest beer in town".

Pint Night

Speaking of cold beer... this is the first Wednesday of the month, which means Nashville Running Company is hosting Pint Night. Stop by NRC after the evening run for some Yazoo and 10% off any purchases.

Christmas Party

More details to come, but for now hold the date on Wednesday December 14th. We'll have our annual Christmas Party that night after the run.

2017 Half (or Full) Marathon Training

Starting in January, the 2017 edition of our Rock n’ Roll Half or Full Marathon training will begin. Right now we are looking for some volunteer pace leaders. Pace leaders train a group to run a specific goal pace for the half marathon, and will finish the training by leading them through the race. Leading a training group is a great way to give back, a lot of fun - and a commitment. As a thank you, we will reimburse you for your race entry fee. We have some leaders already, but we're still looking for several more volunteers. We need leaders for half marathon goal times from 1:20 through 2:30. Interested? Email our Half Marathon Training Coordinator David Harris at David@eastnastyforlife.com for more specifics.

If you are looking to participate in the training we’ll have a detailed outline plus a place to sign up soon, but here are some specifics if you want to plan ahead.

  1. We meet on Saturday mornings at 8:00am starting the first Saturday in January through race day, April 29th.
  2. Our requirement is that you are able to run 5 miles without stopping by January 1.
  3. We will also offer free speed/hill workouts on Thursday evenings and, of course, our Wednesday night runs.
  4. It’s free. Look for more details in the coming weeks!
PR Bandits Saturday Morning Run – 12 South Loop

East Nasty is partnering with the ‘PR Bandits’ who are hosting supported long runs on Saturday mornings. This Saturday we will be supplying Nuun thanks to Nashville Running Company! For the last time this year, we will do the 12th South run, one of our most popular. Due to this having some challanging roads at the beginning of the run, we will start a 1/2 hour earlier than last week, at 7:30am. Starting and finishing at the Sevier Park Shelter, this run brings you into both Oak Hills and Green Hills, and then down Belmont Blvd and into the city for the longer run. We offer two distance options, and even though it is not an out-and-back, you can modify this run to your liking. The 8 mile run should be perfect for those getting ready for races next week.

We will provide hydration at the start and finish as well as around mile 5.5 (St. Bartholomew's)
