December 10th, Christmas Party

Christmas Party 2014

Every year, East Nasty hosts a Christmas gathering to celebrate the past year, and look forward to the new one.   Wednesday night, we'll have our normal run (it's route #1 which is only 5k), then everyone is invited down the street to 1306 Woodland (this is where Phil and Gretchen Zimmerman live).  We'll have soup (white chicken chili and a vegan butternut squash), beer and desserts.  We'll also have some East Nasty gear for sale, and some hoodies to try on (if you want to order one.)   All we ask is that you bring $10 (this allows us to renew our membership with the Road Runners Club of America, and helps offset some of our other costs...)   Everyone is welcome, and if you can't make the run that night or even if you forget your $10.   Just join us at the party which will start right after the run.

The Run

Just a nice quick 5k run to warm us up before the Christmas Party.

Run #1: One Hilly 5kFull/Half Marathon Training

Our half/full marathon training is just around the corner!  Our first meeting is on Saturday January 3rd at 8 am at Shelby Park.  Here are more details.  Please take a moment to sign up if you want to join us.  It's free, and signing up just puts you on our email list - it doesn't commit you to anything.

See you tonight!

Best Wednesday of the Year The stars have aligned...tonight's run is The Nasty, AND it's pint night at NRC!  So not only do you get to run our signature route and earn a sticker - you'll get to celebrate at NRC with a glass of Yazoo.

Remember, this is our longest route, and it's dark, so please (a) wear reflective gear and (b) run with someone else!

The Nasty

Half-Marathon / Full Marathon Training

Don't train alone for this year's country music half or full marathon.  We have a training group that meets every Saturday starting the first weekend in January, and continuing all the way until race day in April.   As always, it's free!    Check out details here,  and then pass it along to anyone else who may be interested.

Christmas Party

Our annual Christmas party is next week after the run (December 10).   It's a great time to celebrate another successful year, and to look forward to 2015.   We'll provide food (white chicken chili) and drinks, and have some East Nasty gear for sale.    We ask that you bring $10 to help offset the cost of "doing business."  (This money will allow us to renew our membership with the Road Runners Club of America.  Also, while everything we offer is free to participants, there are costs associated with what we do, so this money will help offset those costs.)    Everyone is welcome, even if you forget your $10!

Eat Turkey Guilt Free...

Yes, we do meet for a run the day before Thanksgiving.  (In fact, we have not missed a Wednesday run since June 2008.)    So plan on joining us for route #11 on Wednesday.

6 am or 6 pm at the corner of 11th and Holly in East Nashville.  See you then!

Route #11: ChurchesChristmas Party

Our Christmas party is on December 10th.  We'll have our normal run, then everyone is invited to join us at Phil & Gretchen Zimmerman's house for some food and drinks.   This is also a time where we get a list of our "members".     East Nasty is a member of the Road Runners Club of America, and there is a cost associated with that.   We are asking folks to bring $10 to help us offset these costs.   This allows us to keep doing what we're doing!    (We'll also have some East Nasty gear if you are looking for a Christmas present...)

Calling all pace leaders!

Our full / half marathon training begins the first Saturday in January, and we are looking for (a) participants and (b) volunteers.

Volunteers:  If you would like to pass your love of running along, we need 12 pace leaders.  These are people who will train a group to meet a particular time goal.   Those goals are 1:45, 2:00, 2:15 and 2:30.  (We also have a pretty good contingent of people up front who are looking to break 1:30.)   If this piques your interest, please email Mark at mark@eastnastyforlife.com.

Participants: We'll have a detailed outline plus a place to sign up soon, but here are some specifics if you are looking to participate.   1) We meet on Saturday mornings at 8:00 starting the first Saturday in January through race day.  2) Our running requirement is that you need to be able to run 5 miles without stopping by January 1.   3) It's free.  Look for more details next week.

Brrrr....

So you can either run with us at 6 a.m. when it's cold and dark, or you can run with us at 6 p.m. when it's cold and dark.   Either way, be sure to dress warmly and wear reflective gear!   If you don't own any, swing by NRC to grab some before the run.

 Route #10

This is our Mt. Nasty warm-up run.   Here is a quick note about this run: when we exit Shelby Park on Davidson stay on the right side of the road.   The reason is that you will make a right turn to go up 12th.  When you make that turn, enjoy the hill!

Looking Ahead

Here are two dates to put in your calendar: December 10th, and January 3rd.

December 10th: Our annual East Nasty Christmas Party.  It is a great time.  We'll have our regularly scheduled run that evening, then walk down the street to enjoy some food and drinks at the Zimmerman's.   More details coming.

January 3rd: Our first meeting for the 2015 Country Music Marathon training program.  The program is free and open to everyone who can run 5 miles without stopping.  Once again, more details will be coming soon, but I want you guys to get these two dates on your calendar!

Wear Test

This Wednesday is the Kahru / Craft wear test night.   Come over to NRC before the run (starting at 5pm) to try on some Karhu shoes, and Craft apparel.    It will be a great night to try out a new, quality base layer.

Run #9

Run #9: LP Field.    Meet at the corner of 11th and Holly at 6 am or 6 pm.

Pre-Run

Update: The Karhu wear test has been postponed due to weather.   But pint night is still on, and of course we run rain or shine!

One thing that is hard about buying shoes is that often you don't really get to run very much in them before you have to make a decision.    In an effort to combat this, occasionally NRC hosts wear test night.  A "wear test" is when you get to wear a pair of shoes for an entire run!    This Wednesday, Karhu will be at NRC at 5 p.m. if you want to try a pair of their shoes.   There will also be some Craft base layers.  (As a side note, I've had a Craft base layer for about 12 years and it is amazing...)

The Run

Rick's Market.  Coldest beer in town.

Run #8: Rick's Market: Coldest Beer In Town

Note:  We are slowly shifting our runs so that we use the greenway that runs from 19th to the base of the Shelby street entrance rather than going up/down Lillian street.   So this week instead of going around the lake, runners need to turn left at the lake and then go up the greenway to 19th. ( That happens right past the 2nd mile on the above map.)

Post Run

Pint night at NRC.   Best Wednesday of the month...

It's almost halloween.  Your costume for Wednesday night should be something reflective!   In all seriousness, it is definitely time to start wearing reflective gear.

Route #7

#7 Little Hollywood

6 am or 6 pm on Wednesdays at the corner of 11th and Holly in East Nashville.   Enjoy this route.   It takes us through a great section of East Nashville.

Route #6

I love running on Riverside.   Did you guys know that Riverside is almost exactly 5 kilometers long?    Anyway, be sure that you are wearing reflective gear.    There is a bike lane on Riverside, but there is no sidewalk.

See you at 6pm at the corner of 11th and Holly.

Run #6: Riverside

Girls on The Run

Passing our love of fitness and running onto the next generation is one of the main goals of East Nasty.   Girls on the Run is another great organization that shares this passion.   They are looking for some "running buddies" for the girls that are participating in their training program.   Read below, and email Stephanie Livesay (stephanie.livesay@girlsontherun.org) if you have any questions.
Girls on the Run Needs You! We would love to have you be a Running Buddy to accompany and encourage a girl through her end-of-season 5k event experience! For many girls, this is the biggest challenge and biggest accomplishment of Girls on the Run…and one of their favorite parts is having their very own Running Buddy by their side! The 5K will be on November 15th, 8:00am. This 5K will be a part of the Viva la Diva 5K, but Running Buddies only need to register using the link below; they do not need to register for Viva la Diva.

Route #5 Drew's favorite.

6 am or 6 pm at the corner of 11th and Holly in East Nashville.   (If you are a Lasty Nasty, you need to show up at 5:45 pm)

Remember it is time to start wearing reflective gear.   It may not be dark at 6:10, but it will be dark by the time many of you are finishing.

Run #5: The Walking Bridge

Congratulations to all the Chicago marathon finishers!   Well done.

Route #4

Join us on at 6 am or 6 pm at the corner of 11th and Holly.  This week is route #4

Run #4

1) It's not dark at 6 pm when we start, but it is dark at 7 pm when we finish.   Please get in the habit of wearing reflective gear.  As we get deeper into the fall and winter, you may want to consider wear some sort of light.

2) We meet rain or shine.

3) There is a brand new greenway that runs between the Lillian hill entrance to the park and the dog park.  (Right at mile 1 in the map above.)   Tomorrow we are going to run on that greenway.  To get there, run past the Lillian hill and turn left.  Easy Stuff.   We will no longer run around the lake, so it will reduce the mileage a bit, but it will get us off the road which is always nice..

Below is a map of the new Shelby Park paved trails.   The section that we will run tomorrow night goes from #1 to #13, then we'll turn right to get back on the regular route.  (PS It's not lighted yet, but we should be fine at 6:20 when we get there...)
